Midol Side Effects
Midol is a brand name of ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID. Midol is a variety of this drug that is sold over the counter to treat pain associated with menstruation in women. It also may be used for other pain caused by inflammation, such as arthritis. It's available as a pill or capsule.
Serious Side Effects
Although there are many reported serious side effects from taking Midol, you may not get any of them. If you do, consult your physician immediately. The more common serious side effects include pain in the abdomen, skin paleness, abnormal weakness, acidic stomach, belching, indigestion, flatulence, abnormal fatigue, cloudy urine, breathing problems, urination decreases, abnormal bruising and diarrhea. Others may include loud breathing, constipation, itching, abnormal bleeding or nausea. Rare serious side effects are extreme fatigue, confusion, agitation, blurry vision or other vision changes, pain in the chest, neck veins that become dilated, depression, swallowing difficulties, tachycardia (fast heart rate) or arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), dizziness, hostility or even a coma.
Non-Serious Side Effects
Most medications may cause some temporary, non-serious side effects when you first take them. Side effects such as these are expected to go away as you acclimate to the drugs. Call your doctor for help if they persist. These include euphoria or dysphoria, a loss of hearing or odd noises in the ears, crying, sneezing, nervousness, depersonalization, concentration problems, discouragement and nasal congestion. Others may include depression, appetite loss, unusual drowsiness, moods that change quickly and paranoia.
Overdose Side Effects
Ingesting too much Midol may cause overdose symptom side effects, according to the Mayo Clinic. Get medical help if you have taken more than the recommended dose. Overdose side effects may include sweating, tremors in the muscles, blue skin or lips, fainting suddenly, disorientation, cramps in the stomach, dizziness, bradycardia (reduced heart rate) or arrhythmia, hallucinations, restlessness, mood changes, severe breathing problems such as not breathing, lightheadedness and potentially a coma.
