    Fybogel Nutrition Information

Fybogel contains Ispaghula husk -- a natural plant extract with very high fiber content. Each serving usually comes in a small sachet ready to mix with water to create an orange-colored fiber drink. It also contains flavorings and sweeteners to improve the taste. A serving of Fybogel contains very little nutritional value, with no fats, proteins or sugars at all. Each sachet contains just 5 calories.

    Fiber

A single sachet of Fybogel contains 14 percent of your daily recommended dose of fiber. Fiber in the diet helps maintain good bowel health and may help lower blood cholesterol. Fybogel's high fiber content makes it a popular treatment for constipation. The Ispaghula in the Fybogel absorbs water as it travels through the bowel. This causes the Fybogel grains to swell. The Ispaghula then adds bulk to small, hard stools as well as softening them, making it easier for them to pass through the bowel and out of the body.

    Carbohydrate

Fybogel contains 3.5 g of carbohydrates. The carbohydrates in each serving come from the fiber and the product doesn't include any sugar. This amounts to 1 percent of your daily recommended dose of carbs. All of the calories and nutritional content in each Fybogel sachet comes from carbohydrates. Carbs provide the most direct source of fuel for the body. The amount found in a Fybogel serving won't offer much in the way of fuel for any physical activities.

    Other

According to the ingredients listed on the Fybogel package, the product also contains aspartame, saccharin, potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, ploysorbate 80, silica colloidal anhydrous, citric acid and coloring agents. None of these have any real nutritional benefit. Substances such as saccharin work as sugar-free sweeteners with almost zero calories. Coloring agents and flavorings give the Fybogel an orange hue and citrus taste. Fybogel contains no gluten or sodium. Gluten can irritate the gut in people with sensitive bowels. Excess sodium consumption is linked to high blood pressure and associated heart problems.

    Considerations

Fybogel packaging suggests mixing each sachet with 1/4 pint of cold water. Along with the fiber, the water in a Fybogel serving helps constipation by loosening stools and relieving relieving symptoms of dehydration. The average person needs around six to eight 8-oz. glasses of water per day for best overall health, according to Columbia University Health Services. That means that a serving of Fybogel contributes approximately one-seventh of your daily water requirement.
