How to Heal Hair With Vitamin E
You may already know that vitamin E is an important nutrient and antioxidant. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin E is found naturally in many foods, such as nuts and sunflower seeds. It is available as a dietary supplement in the form of oil capsules. In order to grow healthy hair, it's important to include enough vitamin E in your diet. You can also use vitamin E capsules to create a homemade, healing formula to repair dry, damaged hair and split ends.

Eat foods rich in vitamin E, such as broccoli, spinach, nuts and peanut butter. The Office of Dietary Supplements suggests that the average adult needs 15mg of vitamin E per day. Getting enough vitamin E in your diet helps repair your hair from the inside, as it helps stimulate oxygen uptake and increases circulation to the scalp.
Step 2
Make a healing vitamin E treatment for topical application. According to author and homeopath Melanie Grimes in a 2010 article found on website Natural News, you can use vitamin E oil to treat dry hair and heal the hair shaft. Snip the ends off twenty or more vitamin E capsules. Depending on the length of your hair, you may need to use more capsules. Squeeze the contents of the capsules into a small bowl. Vitamin E is sticky, so handle them carefully so you do not drip any oil onto delicate or easily stained surfaces.
Step 3
Apply the vitamin E in its pure form to your hair before shampooing. Massage the oil into your hair and scalp, focusing specifically on dry or split ends. Gently comb through your hair using a wide-toothed comb. Cover your hair with a shower cap to help the oil absorb more fully. Leave the oil in your hair for at least an hour to allow the oil to penetrate and coat your hair shaft.
Step 4
Wash your hair thoroughly with a gentle, cleansing shampoo enriched with vitamin E. Shampoos containing vitamin E won't strip your hair of moisture and they clean your hair gently while hydrating and adding an extra coating of vitamin E.
Step 5
Apply on your hair a conditioner containing vitamin E. Many moisturizing conditioners already contain vitamin E because they include extracts of sunflower, hazelnut or almond as ingredients. Look for conditioners labeled as moisturizing and read the label to see if it contains any of these ingredients. Leave the conditioner on your hair for five to ten minutes and rinse thoroughly with cool water.
