How to Counteract Too Much Salt in Gravy
One of the worst things that can happen when making gravy for dinner is adding too much salt. Now you're stuck between the decision of making more gravy to balance out the salt or just tossing out the gravy. Before you throw the gravy away, try a technique to help pull the excess salt out of the gravy. If you have some potatoes on hand, you might be able to save the gravy before your dinner guests arrive.

Slice one large potato for every two cups of gravy that you are making. The slices should be no more than ¼-inch thick.
Step 2
Add the slices to the gravy and heat them over medium heat until they become translucent.
Step 3
Remove the potatoes from the gravy and discard them. The potatoes absorb salt as they cook and will help remove excess salt from the gravy.
Step 4
Taste the gravy to ensure that the process has removed enough salt. f it is still too salty, add more potatoes and heat it again. Add water because the gravy thickens from heating.
