How to Apply Coconut Oil Under the Eye Area

Coconut oil has been a staple of Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, both internally and externally. Mothers routinely massage coconut oil into their children's scalps to encourage thick, shiny hair, and coconut oil moisturizer is a preferred way to treat wrinkles and help promote clear skin. A 2008 study published in “Dermatitis," the journal of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, confirms that virgin coconut oil is useful in treating dry skin and contains antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

    Step 1

Wash your face with a mild cleanser. Don't use anything with exfoliating beads or crushed shells to avoid irritating your skin.

    Step 2

Rinse your face thoroughly with warm water. Don't use water that is too hot because it can dry your skin.

    Step 3

Pour a dime-sized puddle of virgin coconut oil into the palm of your dominant hand. Let it warm for a few seconds.

    Step 4

Dip the ring finger of your nondominant hand into the coconut oil, and let the excess drip off. Dot the coconut oil under your eye, working in a crescent from the inner corner toward the outer.

    Step 5

Repeat for the other eye. The ring finger of your nondominant hand is your weakest digit. By using it and blotting, you avoid stretching or irritating the delicate skin under your eyes.

    Step 6

Let the coconut oil dry naturally, and leave it on while you sleep. Wash your face as usual in the morning.
